Our History: The Story of Carolina Furniture Works, Inc.
Our story didn't begin alongside the growth of the internet, but rather the strength of a country emerging from World War II. We were born out of the ideals of hard work and dedication to our community, and continue to foster those values nearly 75 years later.
At the age of sixteen, Ernest McCray Weeks, Sr. began employment with the Dorchester Lumber Company. The experience obtained in the years to follow would enable him to acquire employment in 1929 with a bedroom producer, Sumter Cabinet, in Sumter, South Carolina. After years of gaining valuable knowledge and proficiency in the furniture industry, Mr. Weeks resigned the position he had achieved as Plant Superintendent, and in 1946 began devoting his full time and energy towards developing his own fast-growing business. The bedroom business was successful through the years under the leadership of Mr. Weeks.
We continued to grow and become a well-known producer of quality bedroom products through the leadership of his son E. M. Weeks, Jr. During this time, territories were enlarged that included distribution throughout the USA and to other parts of the world. Today, we continue to be a well-established manufacturer of value priced bedroom furniture and a progressive family owned business. We are known for producing fine bedroom products that are made in the USA.
Today, under the leadership of current President & CEO Cray Weeks, we produce collections that cover a variety of styles and now include traditional as well as transitional designs of stained and painted finishes. We continue to be known in the industry as a manufacturer of bedroom products of quality construction made in the USA. Distribution throughout the USA continues through thousands of independently owned retailers and also includes products exported to areas outside the United States.
Influenced in the beginning by rural American cultural styles, the classic designs of today’s products exceed the quality and craftsmanship expected by consumers. Our bedroom products continue to reflect the charm of simple furniture traditions combined with today’s trends, as well as being family owned and operated by a third generation who carry on a dedication to a family of satisfied customers.
